About Joshua

A dedicated mental health advocate and community leader, Joshua brings a wealth of knowledge and personal lived experience to the mental health sector and to various national and local projects, boards, and organizations.

Passionate about mental health and suicide prevention, Joshua has worked tirelessly to raise awareness around mental health and suicide prevention efforts, educate on the types of resources available, and push for key policy changes to improve the mental health of Canadians. This includes his advocacy for the National 988, a national suicide prevention strategy, a national mental health transfer, and much more. Between 2020 and 2024, Joshua started and operated a youth mental health advocacy organization in the Hamilton region.

Joshua currently sits as National Co-Chair for the National Advisory Council of the Mood Disorders Society of Canada, Chairs the Pre-Budget Submission Committee and is a Member of the National Advisory Council of the National Initiative for Eating Disorders, and is a Community Champion with Unsinkable. In addition to these roles, Joshua also sits as a Director on the National Board of the Canadian South Asian Women's Chamber of Commerce, is the Director of Community Relations for Valued Connections Healthcare, and is a Member of the City of Hamilton's Youth Steering Committee. Joshua is also a Member in good standing of the Eating Disorders Association of Canada and the Global Mental Health Action Network.

In early 2025, Joshua was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal by the Governor General's Office on behalf of the King for his significant contributions to Canada for his mental health and suicide prevention work.

Community Leadership

Joshua is currently sits on the National Youth Advisory Council of the Mood Disorder Society of Canada as well as on the National Youth Advisory Council of the National Initiative for Eating Disorders (NIED).

In addition to this, he sits on the City of Hamilton's Youth Steering Committee (also known informally as HamOnt Youth) where he works to engage and advocate for youth within the city to ensure a more open, youth active, and inclusive city for all and is on the National Board of the Canadian South Asian Women's Chamber of Commerce (CSAWCC).

Joshua also currently serves as the President of the Flamborough-Glanbrook Provincial Liberal Association Board, Vice-President of the Flambrough-Glanbrook-Brant North Federal Liberal Electoral District Board, and serves as the Chief of Staff and Executive Assistant to the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian South Asian Women's Chamber of Commerce in addition to being a National Board Member.

In the 2025 Ontario General Election, Joshua stood as the Ontario Liberal Party Candidate for Flamborough-Glanbrook, his home riding. He secured a total of 31.42% of the vote (an increase of 11.01% of the vote compared to 2022) and received 15,135 votes, delivering one of the best campaigns in the region for the Ontario Liberal Party.

Advocacy

Joshua has done volunteer work includes work done with the Good Shephard, the De Mazenod Door Outreach, volunteering with Bishop Ryan's Breakfast Club serving food to students who need it, and general volunteer with the Catholic Women’s League of Canada (Our Lady of Assumption Parish Branch). Joshua also volunteers with the Hamilton Fire Department during the November Food Drive yearly.

Serving his community on National Boards and Youth Councils, this work is done in a volunteer capacity as well.

Awards and Recognition

Joshua has received the HWCDSB Director’s Award of Excellence for School Mission/Vision (2019), the Patrick J. Daley Memorial Award for Personal Examples and Work that Contribute to the Corporate Life of the School and Community (2021), and the Paul and Helen O'Sullivan Award for Community Involvement (2021).

In March 2025, Joshua was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal by the Governor General's Office on behalf of the King for his dedication to the community and his mental health advocacy work. The Coronation Medal commemorates the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III as King of Canada and is issued to individuals who have made a significant contribution to Canada. Only 30,000 were awarded to people from across Canada.

Joshua continuing contributions to his community have also led him to be nominated for the Lieutenant Governor’s Community Volunteer Award for Students (2021), and the June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Voluntarism (2021).
